# Market Heatmap

**Panel code: `MAP`**

The Market Heatmap gives you a visual overview of the entire market at a glance. Every stock is represented as a rectangle — sized by market cap weighting and coloured by percentage change.

***

## Reading the heatmap

| Colour      | Meaning                      |
| ----------- | ---------------------------- |
| Deep green  | Strong positive move (> +2%) |
| Light green | Moderate positive move |
| Grey        | Flat / near unchanged        |
| Light red | Moderate negative move |
| Deep red    | Strong negative move (< −2%) |

The **size** of each tile reflects the stock's relative weight within its sector. A large green `NVDA` tile means it is both heavily weighted and strongly up on the day.

## Sectors

The heatmap is grouped by GICS sector:

* Technology
* Consumer Discretionary
* Financials
* Healthcare
* Energy
* Industrials
* Communication Services
* Consumer Staples
* Materials
* Real Estate
* Utilities

Sector labels appear as dividers between groups. Each sector can be collapsed by clicking the sector header.

***

## Interacting with tiles

* **Hover** over any tile to see a tooltip with: last price, change %, volume, and market cap
* **Click** any tile to set that ticker as the active ticker across all other panels (Chart, Quote Monitor, News Feed, AI Assistant)

***

## Filtering

Use the **sector filter** buttons at the top of the panel to focus on one or more sectors. Click a sector name to toggle it on/off. Hold `⇧` to select multiple sectors.

***

> **Tip:** Run the heatmap alongside the News Feed in the same workspace. Clicking a red tile in the heatmap will immediately filter the News Feed to that ticker's news, letting you find the cause of a move in seconds.
