# Chatroom

**Panel code: `CHAT`**

The Chatroom is a live, stock-tagged community chat built directly into the terminal. Every user in Vorxis shares the same rooms. `$TICKER` mentions are auto-linked so you can follow conversations about specific stocks.

***

## Channels

Switch between channels using the channel selector at the top of the panel. Each channel has its own message history which is loaded when you join.

| Channel     | Purpose                                   |
| ----------- | ----------------------------------------- |
| **General** | Open discussion — anything market related |
| **Tech** | Technology stocks and sector news |
| **Macro** | Indices, bonds, Fed, macro events |
| **Crypto** | Digital assets (coming soon) |

## Sending a message

Click the message input at the bottom of the panel and type. Press `⌘ Enter` (Mac) or `Ctrl Enter` (Windows/Linux) to send.

***

## Ticker tags (`$TICKER`)

Type `$` followed by any ticker symbol (e.g. `$AAPL`, `$NVDA`) and it becomes a clickable tag. When another user clicks a tag it sets that ticker as their active ticker across their entire terminal.

```
$NVDA US +4.24% looking like it wants another leg up after CUDA keynote
```

Tags are highlighted in the chat so they stand out from regular text.

***

## User mentions (`@username`)

Type `@` to begin a mention. An autocomplete list of users in the current channel appears. Mentions are highlighted for the recipient.

***

## Emoji reactions

Hover over any message to reveal the reaction picker. Click any emoji to add your reaction. Reactions aggregate — if 5 people react with 🚀 the count appears next to the emoji.

***

## Message history

When you first join a channel, the last 50 messages are loaded from history. Scroll up to read older messages (pagination loads more automatically). New messages arrive in real-time via a persistent WebSocket connection.

***

## Connection status

The status dot in the panel header shows:

| Dot      | Meaning                                                    |
| -------- | ---------------------------------------------------------- |
| 🟢 Green | Connected, messages flowing                                |
| 🟡 Amber | Reconnecting                                               |
| 🔴 Red | Disconnected — check your network or try switching regions |

***

> **Security:** Messages are delivered over an authenticated WebSocket connection. Your user ID is never exposed to other clients — only your username is shown. See [Regions](/reference/regions.md) for information on which server your chat connection routes to.
