# Creating a New Terminal

A **terminal** in Vorxis is a workspace — a named tab containing an arrangement of panels. You can have multiple terminals open and switch between them instantly.

***

## Opening your first workspace

When you launch Vorxis for the first time, you land in **Workspace 1** with an empty canvas. The layout from your last session is restored automatically on subsequent visits.

***

## Adding panels

### Method 1 — Keyboard shortcut

Press `⌘ K` (Mac) / `Ctrl K` (Windows/Linux) to open the **panel picker**.

### Method 2 — New Panel button

Click **+ New Panel** in the workspace tab bar at the top of the screen.

Both methods open the same picker modal:

Click any tile to add that panel to your current workspace. Panels that are already open are greyed out.

***

## Arranging panels

Once added, panels are positioned on a **free-form canvas**. You can:

* **Drag** the panel header bar to move it anywhere on the canvas
* **Resize** by dragging any edge or corner
* **Maximise** a panel with `⌘ ⇧ F` — press again to restore
* **Close** a panel with `⌘ W` or the `✕` button in its header

Layouts are saved automatically per workspace tab.

***

## Creating additional workspaces

Click the **+** icon in the workspace tab bar to create a new terminal. Each workspace:

* Has its own independent panel layout
* Can be renamed by double-clicking the tab label
* Is preserved across sessions

Switch between workspaces instantly with `⌘ 1` through `⌘ 9`.

***

## Setting your active ticker

The **command bar** at the bottom of the screen is shared across all panels. Type any ticker symbol and press `Enter` to set it as the active ticker — this updates the Chart, Quote Monitor, News Feed, and AI Assistant simultaneously.

You can also press the backtick `` ` `` or `:` key from anywhere in the terminal to jump focus straight to the command bar.

***

> **Tip:** Build one workspace per strategy — e.g. one for tech stocks, one for macro ETFs. Each workspace remembers its own layout and panel state independently.
